🦚 A day after ‘Coming Out Day’ it is time to come down and land in Queer Sphere. Isn’t it odd that straight and cis people never have the societal pressure to come out? That’s why we want to honour the holy queer souls on this planet from whom it is constantly expected to relate their queerness to the status quo through e.g. ‘coming out’. We invite you all to ‘Come In’ and dance away that cishet normativity.

[Genderclowns] with a special opening set and ritual. The Genderclowns are a bunch of messy clowns from Rotterdam and beyond who used to be the ones behind the GenderBendingQueerParty. The party ended, but the clowns didn’t stop taking over parties by creating an intimate, caring, but chaotic atmosphere.

In this party we aim to create a space for queer folks and allies. In Queer Sphere there is no space for racism, transphobia, homophobia, sexism, fatphobia and other oppressive behaviour. It’s a space in which no one has the entitlement to question what another person wears or not-wears and how they present to the world. If you are referring to someone and don’t know their pronouns, it would be great not to assume but ask instead. Also, consent is key: ask for consent before getting closer to someone. In case something makes you feel uncomfortable, you can always approach the people behind the bar.

🦋Een dag na Coming Out Day is het tijd om neer te dalen en te landen bij Queer Sphere. Is het niet vreemd dat hetero- en cismensen nooit een maatschappelijke druk ondervinden om uit de kast te komen? We eren de heilige queer zielen op deze wereld, die altijd verwacht worden zich in hun queerness te verhouden tot de status quo, bijvoorbeeld door uit de kast te komen. We nodigen iedereen uit in de kast te komen en de cis-hetero normativiteit van zich af te dansen.
🦋Met dit feest streven wij ernaar om een ruimte voor queermensen en hun medestanders te creëren. In Queer Sphere is geen ruimte voor racisme, transfobie, homofobie, seksisme, fatphobia en andere onderdrukkende uitingen. Het is een plaats waar niemand over de privileges beschikt om te bevragen wat iemand anders wel of niet mag dragen of hoe iemand anders zich mag uitdrukken. Als je over iemand spreekt, maar je kent diens voornaamwoorden niet, vraag het aan die persoon. Dat is beter dan het maken van aannames. Daarbij is toestemming het sleutelwoord: vraag ernaar voordat je in iemand persoonlijke ruimte komt. En als je je toch niet op je gemak voelt, weet dan dat je altijd het barpersoneel kan aanspreken.

The festival programs artworks that investigate specific layers of heteronormative society. We invite you to unfold and research your own perspective in our many activities, ranging from the visual art exhibitions to workshops, performances, lectures and parties.
🦋Qtopia Queer Arts Festival 2019 is een tijdelijke kunstomgeving in Nijmegen, van 4 tot 20 oktober. Het festival programmeert kunstwerken die de heteronormatieve samenleving onderzoeken. We nodigen je uit om je eigen perspectief te ontwarren en te onderzoeken tijdens onze vele activiteiten; van beeldende kunst exposities tot workshops, performances, lezingen en feestjes.
